Archaeological Fieldwork

Archaeological Excavation is usually carried out once planning permission has been granted and can take the form of an open area excavation or a watching brief may be deemed the appropriate approach under a planning condition where previous archaological evluation or desk-based assessment indicates full-scale excavation is not warranted.

Historic Building Survey

Historic building surveys can often be required on buildings considered to be an historic asset, which includes buildings which are not listed but of some historic interest. These usually involve the recording of the building's through a drawn, written and photographic record.

Historic Landscape Survey

Landscape Survey is an especially powerful tool for understanding the development of a landscape when combined with desk-based research of current and historic maps, aerial photographs, historical documents, oral testimony and the findings of previous research. Landscape survey therefore often draws upon and cooperates with the interests and techniques of other research specialisms.

Deskbase Assessment

Deskbased Assessments will typically include information from maps and plans of the area, both modern and historical, all relevant data from county Sites and Monuments Records , aerial photograph evidence, geological information, and any archaeological literature relating to previous investigations on or near the site.
